What is Lifelong Learning?

Lifelong Learning is a formal and/or informal activity undertaken throughout life, with the aim of improving knowledge, skills and competences/achievements within a personal, civic, social and/or employment-related perspective..

What is the importance of Lifelong Learning?

Lifelong learners are often seen by employers as motivated to learn and develop themselves, to enhance their knowledge and abilities in what they do, and more capable of taking initiative to problem-solve. This can lead to increased responsibilities, better positions and pay, and greater respect in the workplace. In the family, lifelong learners can be seen as more knowledgeable and responsible role models.

What are the benefits of Lifelong Learning?

There can be many reasons why people dedicate their time to increasing their knowledge, both personal and professional, and learning beyond the traditional school years. There are countless benefits for the learner focused in his or her professional life such as:

  • higher salary and recognition;
  • more respect in the workplace and community;
  • more confidence in complex situations and problem-solving scenarios;
  • leading into new possibilities for work and/or life choices;
  • standing out from ‘the crowd’.

What does it mean to be a Lifelong Learner?
