Warnborough College was founded in the inspiring university city of Oxford in 1973 by Ethyl and Brenden Tempest-Mogg. Brenden was a graduate research student at the University of Oxford (Hertford College). Initially, this new independent college offered an opportunity for American college/university students to experience the Socratic tutorial system of mentoring, used by the universities of Oxford and Cambridge for centuries. For their semester or year abroad in Oxford, American students received pre-approved transferable credits toward their US degree. Cultural, social and sporting activities were integrated into their Warnborough Oxford experiences.
Oxford Dons tutored, and access to the Bodleian Library, the Oxford Union, and Fresher’s Week welcomed Warnborough students. Over 200 American colleges and universities have sent their students to Warnborough; and, today Warnborough welcomes students from around the world for its various academic offerings – online, onsite, and by blended learning. Scholarships are offered, and all students pay the same fees.
A lot has happened in 50 years and Warnborough has expanded into a recognised and highly respected institution. It still remains true to it original mission, to enable students to cross boundaries and widen their horizons.
Warnborough has flourished from the very start in 1973. It has been an exciting and rewarding challenge. Its Learning Centres around the world have added lustre to Warnborough; and the Warnborough Foundation, a UK charity is supported by many alumni and friends to change lives.
Warnborough has the weight of academic quality behind it, and its long history is littered with ‘thinkers and doers’. Its world headquarters is based in the historic cathedral and university city of Canterbury. Warnborough invites you to a learning experience beyond expectations.
